McCreless Branch Library is reopening after extensive renovations as part of the City of San Antonio’s 2017-2022 Bond Program. In celebration of the reopening, San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) is hosting a reopening event to welcome the community back into the new and improved McCreless Branch.
The $2.5 million project offers the community access to a fully renovated library facility and enhanced library resources. The renovations at McCreless are transformative and include improved spaces for children and teens, all new technology, and improvements to the facility’s common spaces, meeting and study rooms, and restrooms. The project also adds SAPL’s fifth Learn at SAPL center, expanding adult education services on San Antonio’s southeast side. Learn at SAPL offers technology training, career assistance, and ESL and GED services in a supportive and welcoming environment.
“We’re thrilled to welcome the residents of our east side community back to their McCreless Branch Library,” said Ramiro S. Salazar, SAPL Director. “The long-awaited improvements to this location have lived up to our high expectations. The result is a state-of-the-art library that offers expanded programs and services. We are proud to bring a facility of this quality to San Antonio’s southeast side at McCreless Branch Library.”
The reopening celebration will officially kick off the resumption of services at McCreless on Saturday, April 16 beginning at 11:00 a.m. Festivities will include a formal speaking program with District 3 Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran, Library Director Salazar, and SAPL Board Representative for District 3 Josie Martinez.
All library locations will be closed on Sunday, April 17 in observance of Easter Sunday. Beginning Monday, April 18 regular hours at McCreless Branch Library will be Monday & Tuesday noon – 8 p.m. and Wednesday-Sunday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
