Free Outdoor Movies in the Southside

Evenings are best spent lounging on a cozy blanket, watching a great movie under the stars. This Summer and Fall, you can enjoy free blockbuster, classic, family-friendly movies, courtesy of Slab Cinema. Here is the 2019 free outdoor movie schedule for Confluence Park and Mission Marquee Plaza.

Confluence Park- Confluence Park is located at 310 West Mitchell Street. It is a 3.5-acre park that is situated along the San Antonio River. On the 2nd Friday in May, June and July, the park features its Outdoor Movie Night at the BHP Pavilion. All movies are free, open to the public and begin at sunset. You can bring children, pets, blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets.

May 10th- The Jungle Book- 2016 live-action/animated adventure, drama, fantasy movie, based on the 1894 collection of stories, of the same name, by Rudyard Kipling and is also inspired by the 1967 animated movie, of the same name.

June 14th- Jurassic Park- 1993 adventure, sci-fi, thriller movie, based on the 1990 novel, of the same name, by Michael Crichton. This is the 1st movie in the film series, with 5 movies released so far and one more currently in development.

July 12th- Life of Pi- 2012 adventure, survival, drama movie, based on the 2001 novel, of the same name, by Yann Martel.

Confluence Park San Antonio

Mission Marquee Plaza- Mission Marquee Plaza is located at 3100 Roosevelt Avenue, home of the former Mission Drive-In Theatre. From May 3rd through November 16th, on the 1st and 3rd Saturday and the 3rd Thursday of each month, the plaza features its Outdoor Movie Series. All movies are free, open to the public and begin approximately 15 minutes after dusk. You can bring children, pets, blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets.

May 3rd- Cloak & Dagger- 1984 action, adventure, spy movie, based on the 1947 short story, The Boy Cried Murder, by Cornell Woolrich.

May 4th- Ralph Breaks the Internet- 2018 3D computer-animated, adventure, comedy movie that is the sequel to the 2012, Wreck-It Ralph.

May 16th- Mary Poppins Returns- 2018 comedy, fantasy, musical movie, based on the 8-book series (1934-1988), Mary Poppins, by P.L. Travers and is also the sequel to the 1964, Mary Poppins.

May 18th- Aquaman- 2018 superhero movie, based on the character, Aquaman, from DC Comics. This is the 6th film installment in the DC Extended Universe, with 7 films released so far and 6 more currently in development.

 

June 1st- Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation- 2018 computer-animated, adventure, comedy movie that is the sequel to the 2012, Hotel Transylvania and the 2015, Hotel Transylvania 2, as well as the prequel to the 2021, Hotel Transylvania 4.

June 15th- Ant-Man and the Wasp- 2018 superhero movie, based on the characters, Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Hope Van Dyne/Wasp, from Marvel Comics. This is the sequel to the 2015, Ant-Man and is also the 12th film installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with 23 films released so far and 8 more currently in development.

June 20th- The Karate Kid- 1984 action, drama, martial arts movie that is the 1st movie in The Karate Kid film series, with 5 movies released.

 

July 6th- Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse- 2018 computer-animated, superhero movie, based on the character, Miles Morales/Spider-Man, from Marvel Comics. This is the 1st animated film installment in the Spider-Man movie franchise, with 10 live-action films released so far and several more currently in development.

July 18th- Pretty in Pink- 1986 romantic comedy, cult classic movie.

July 20th- Black Panther- 2018 superhero movie, based on the character, Black Panther, from Marvel Comics. This is the 18th film installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with 23 films released so far and 8 more currently in development.

 

August 3rd- The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part- 2019 (February 8th) computer-animated, action, adventure, comedy movie that is the sequel to the 2014, The Lego Movie. The 2014 film produced 2 spin-offs in 2017, The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Ninjago Movie.

August 15th- Grease- 1978 romantic comedy, musical movie that is based on the 1971 musical, of the same name. This is the prequel to the 1982, Grease 2.

August 17th- Captain Marvel- 2019 (March 8th) superhero movie, based on the character, Carol Danvers, from Marvel Comics. This is the 21st film installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with 23 films released so far and 8 more currently in development.

 

September 7th- Dumbo- 2019 (March 29th) live-action adventure, fantasy movie that is inspired by the 1941 animated movie, of the same name.

September 19th- Nacho Libre- 2006 sports comedy movie that is loosely based on the life of Fray Tormenta, a Mexican priest who spent his nights working as a masked lucha libre wrestler, for over 20 years, in order to support the orphanage that he founded.

September 21st- Cesar Chavez- 2014 biographical drama movie that is based on the life of Cesar Chavez, a labor union leader and civil rights activist, who co-founded the United Farm Workers (UFW) union in 1962.

 

October 5th- McFarland, USA- 2015 biographical sports drama movie that is based on the huge success of a 1987 cross country running team from McFarland High School (McFarland, California), a predominantly Hispanic student body high school.

October 17th- The Goonies- 1985 adventure, comedy movie.

October 19th- Bumblebee- 2018 action, adventure, sci-fi movie that is based on the Transformers character, Bumblebee. This is the 6th installment in the Transformers film series, with 5 films released so far and 2 more currently in development.

 

November 2nd- Coco- 2017 3D computer-animated, adventure, comedy, fantasy movie that’s concept is inspired by the Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos), a Mexican holiday that remembers family and friends who have passed away.

November 16th- (Double Feature):

Home Alone- 1990 Christmas comedy movie that is the 1st film in the Home Alone movie franchise, with a total of 5 movies released.

Elf- 2003 Christmas comedy movie that inspired the 2010 Broadway musical, Elf: The Musical and the 2014 stop-motion animated television special, Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas. Mission Marquee Plaza
